2010 Summer Children's Theatre Camps

The Ogunquit Playhouse Children's Theatre Program offers theatrical training to students of all ages in a supportive and nurturing environment. Children ages five to eight years may participate in our Rising Stars Camps (description follows below). Childen ages nine to fifteen can participate in our Junior Players' Camps which results in on-stage performances for our audiences.  Teen Showcase is for ages thirteen to eighteen, and is held the week of August 16 - 20.

Below is a listing of our three summer program offerings.

Rising Stars Camp for ages 5 to 8 years

Designed for students, ages five to eight, this introductory camp will introduce our youngest students to the theatre arts. Combining fun and educational games with instruction, the workshops bring the performing arts to life for youngsters new to theatre.

Students will learn basic staging, music and choreography with an emphasis on group performance in a supportive and nurturing atmosphere. Students will attend camp half days Monday through Friday. A performance for families will be held on Fridays in the Chloe Checkoway Pavilion.

Junior Players for ages 9 to 15 years

The original Playhouse Children’s Theatre Camp, designed for students, ages nine to 15, will identify, strengthen and enhance each student’s performance skills, self-esteem and self-expression. Students receive training in dance and choreography, improvisation, acting, staging and vocal work while preparing to perform before a live audience on the Playhouse stage. Students will attend camp Monday-Friday, 9:30AM-3:30PM with performances on Saturdays at 10:00 AM and Noon and Sundays at 10:00 AM.  Each of our Junior Players camps will culminate in a fully staged production on the Playhouse’s Main Stage!

Teen Showcase for ages 13 to 18

This summer acting camp is designed for the older student, ages thirteen to eighteen, and is taught by Wendell Purrington (Choral Director of Portsmouth High School). The camp offers advanced lessons in improv, dance and vocals, as well as specialty classes with visiting professional actors. Students will attend camp Monday-Thursday evenings with a live performance for families and friends on Friday evening in The Chloe Checkoway Pavilion.
