Nature, creativity, a love of whimsy and a passion for fairies take center stage in this fun-filled weekend! The ever-popular Fairy Houses: The Musical, returns to the Playhouse stage in July 2010. Based on the bestselling children’s book, "Fairy Houses" by Portsmouth author Tracy Kane, this enchanting musical production reveals how nature inspires children's imaginations and captures their hearts; encouraging them to go outside to cherish and respect wildlife and their habitats...and to create their own fairy houses.

It is held in collaboration with a special Fairy Houses weekend, organized by the Playhouse Theatre Guild, featuring Fairy House Village tours on the Playhouse grounds all weekend long. The Fairy House Tours take place on Saturday from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM and Sunday from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM. The show will take place Saturday at 10AM and Noon and Sunday at 10AM.

Visitors are encouraged to walk through the woods on the 27-acre campus and enjoy the many “Fairy Houses” built by local floral designers and artisans, and to build their own Fairy Houses along the path. Children and families will be able to attend the show, build a Fairy House, walk the woodland trail through the Fairy House Village, meet Tracy Kane, hear her tell her stories and have a book signed during this weekend full of special activities designed to enhance your appreciation of and respect for nature!

Guidelines on how to Build a Fairy House onsite:

1.  Fairy Houses are set in a location close to the ground – be sure yours looks so natural it is almost hidden.

2.  Use only natural materials. Dry grasses, leaves, sticks, pebbles, shells, bark off a fallen tree, milkweed pods, acorns, berries, gourds, miniature pumpkins and pinecones are just a few examples of materials to choose. Some materials will be available, but participants are encouraged to bring their own or forage in the woods surrounding the Fairy House Village. (No glue, nails, or other such materials will be provided)

3.  Be careful not to use or disturb any of nature's materials that are still living, especially flowers, ferns, mosses, and lichen, unless they are attached to a rock or piece of bark. Fairies do not like to disturb or destroy anything that is growing in nature.

4.  The Fairy House should be for a “fairy” but, it can be any style of architecture, i.e. a motel with units, a castle, a shopping area, restaurant with tables and chairs, a beach cottage, or anything your imagination conjures up.

Guidelines for building your Fairy House Prior to the event:

1.  If you are transporting your Fairy House to the Ogunquit Playhouse Campus you may use hot wax, twine, nails and plywood (or similar base) to transport, BUT, it must appear natural therefore none of these materials should be seen.

2. Fairy Houses should be dropped off the day before the event. To make other arrangements for delivery contact Jean Benda or Pamela Sawyer.

You are welcome to put your name on a 3 x 5 or 4 x 6 card by your Fairy House.
