The original Playhouse Children’s Theatre Camp, designed for students from nine to 15, will identify, strengthen and enhance each student’s performance skills, self-esteem and self-expression. Students receive training in dance and choreography,improvisation, acting, staging and vocal work while preparing to perform before a live audience on the Playhouse stage. Each of the sessions culminates in a fully staged production on the Playhouse’s Main Stage!

Students will attend camp Monday-Friday from 9:30 AM — 3:30 PM with dress rehearsal and performances Saturdays and Sundays on the Playhouse Main Stage.

Our New Educational Director for the 2011 Children's Theatre Camp Season

Paul is thrilled to return to the Playhouse to lead the Education Department. Last season he directed the Jr. Players in Jack and the Beanstalk. A director, stage manager, and teaching artist, Paul has worked Off-Broadway and Regionally. Favorite Credits Include: Ogunquit Playhouse: Avenue Q, Chicago, The Sound of Music, All Shook Up. NYC: La Barberia (New World Stages), The Orphan's Home Cycle (Signature Theatre Company/Hartford Stage), The Punishing Blow (Clurman, Theatre Row), Forgotten World (Public Theater/Sundance Institute), The Living Newspaper (DRD Theatricals).

Paul holds a BFA from NYU's Tisch School of the Arts. A New Hampshire native, Paul has helped mount dozens of children's shows at Manchester's Palace Theater. With an interest in children's entertainment across mediums, Paul previously served as the Assistant Director of The New York International Children's Film Festival, the largest festival for children and teens in North America. He looks forward to expanding the curricular goals of all Ogunquit Playhouse Educational Programming to deepen each participant's experience and foster their skills while maintaining the high quality productions for which the department has become known.

It’s Snow White’s Wedding Day and you’re all invited! Snow White’s seven eccentric friends recount the story of meeting the Princess To Be. This fresh take on the classic tale features familiar characters including the Evil Queen and Magic Mirror plus some new faces (you’ll get an earful from the dwarves’ discontented wives!) This week long classic camp will investigate adaptations of well-known stories. How are stories re-imagined and presented for different mediums and audiences? Participants will experience a basic theatrical production process, from casting to performance, where all are included and supported. All skill levels are welcome.

Curriculum Focus: Ensemble Work

The jungle is jumpin' with jazz in this exciting Disney classic! Join Mowgli, Baloo, King Louie and the gang as they swing their way through madcap adventures and thwart the ferocious tiger, Shere Khan. Specially adapted from the beloved film, this musical includes all your favorite Disney tunes, like "The Bare Necessities," and "I Wan'na Be Like You.". Participants will engage in a week of ensemble work to create the world of the Jungle. Working with voice, body, concentration, trust and more, participants will discover effective ways for a group to produce together a single effect. All skill levels are welcome.

 

 

Ogunquit Playhouse - Pippi Longstocking - The New Family Musical

Dressed in strange clothes and living with her horse and pet monkey, Pippi is the high spirited, warm hearted girl of supernatural strength and untold wealth. With new friends Tommy and Annika, Pippi questions the world in which she lives and the expectations placed upon her; all the while longing to be reunited with her father, Captain Longstocking, and his band of pirates aboard the Hoptoad. Participants will work as an ensemble to present a stylized production utilizing puppetry. To fully benefit from this experience, it is recommended that participants have completed at least two camp experiences with the Playhouse or other camps, or participated in school/community productions.

THE MUSIC MAN

Curriculum Focus: The Professional Experience

The Jr. Players join our professional cast on the mainstage this summer in Meredith Willson’s all-American favorite “The Music Man.” Participants will experience a professional rehearsal and performance process with supplemental curriculum to guide their journey. We’ll go behind the curtains to investigate casting, character development, scene study, vocal score analysis, production processes, history and context of the work, the technical rehearsal process, and maintaining a “frozen” show. Participants will be chosen from auditions to be held on April 9 & 10. Click here for more information and audition requirements. Please note that participants will be performing 8 shows a week. This commitment is for dedicated students.

Gold Camp (2 Week Camp)
Rehearsals: July 11 - July 20
Performances: July 20 - August 7 (24 Performances)

COST: $595.00

The Gold Camp will join the mainstage cast in their second week of rehearsal. Participants will work directly with the mainstage and associate directors, choreographer, dance captain, and music directors to learn their roles. The Gold Camp will experience the transition from rehearsal room to technical rehearsals onstage with sets, costumes, lighting and orchestra. Performing 8 shows a week, from July 20 – Aug 7, these students will experience the thrill of an “Opening Night” to celebrate their accomplishments.

Red Camp (1 Week Camp)
Rehearsals: August 1 - August 9
Performances: August 9 - August 20 (16 Performances)

COST: $395.00

The Red Camp will experience the unique process of replacing a role in an existing production. Participants will work directly with the associate director, dance captain, and music directors to learn their roles. The Red Camp will experience the transition from rehearsal room to put-in rehearsal onstage with full cast, sets, costumes, and lighting. Performing 8 shows a week, from Aug 9 – Aug 20, these students will celebrate the great success of the show through closing night!
