New York Post shout out: From Here to Eternity

Excerpt from New York Post’s “Amy Schumer is an even bigger Broadway star than predicted” by Michael Riedel:

Tim Rice is headed to Maine to see a production of his musical “From Here To Eternity” at the Ogunquit Playhouse.

Based on James Jones’ classic novel, set in Hawaii on the eve of Pearl Harbor, the show had a short-lived run a few years ago in London. But the prizewinning lyricist kept plugging away, and an improved version played to sellout crowds two summers ago at the Finger Lakes Musical Theatre Festival.

Judging from the reviews in Ogunquit, this third incarnation is the charm. “[A] powerful theatrical production that [captures] a pivotal time in history,” said the local Portland Press Herald., adding that the score is full of “heart- wrenching ballads.” I hear a few Broadway producers are going to Maine to check it out.

After Maine, Rice heads to New York to celebrate the 20th anniversary of “The Lion King” at a special performance Nov. 4. Joining him will be Elton John, Julie Taymor and members of the original cast.
