Cast

Charles Shaughnessy

Captain E.J. Smith

CHARLES SHAUGHNESSY (Captain E.J. Smith) he/him. At the risk of “familiarity breeding contempt,” Charles is delighted to be making his fourth appearance on the Ogunquit stage (including one in a famously large tent!) to whit…. Spamalot (x2) and his latest Ogunquit appearance was in The Da Vinci Code alongside Michael Urie and Hannah Cruz. With respect to his “origin story,” Charles was born to a showbiz family in London and educated at Eton College and Cambridge University, where he tried to “do something sensible” by getting a degree in Law. It didn’t work. Performing in the celebrated Footlights Revue was a lot more fun than Torts and Land Law so he decided to join the family business after all. After a few years of gainful employment in England, Charles pursued a gorgeous American actress to Los Angeles, married her, and raised two equally gorgeous daughters who are the light of his life. After making his US stage debut, over 40 years ago, at the Los Angeles CTG in Howard Brenton’s The Genius, Charles went on to a successful and multi-faceted career on stage and screen that took him from exotic movie locations like Hawaii and Paris to stages in Oklahoma, Pittsburgh, New York… and Bermuda! Charles considers himself extremely lucky to have made a living in this wonderful, crazy business and has enjoyed every second of it. You might recognize him from his roles on beloved TV shows like The Nanny (CBS), Days of Our Lives (NBC), and Mad Men (AMC). Then again…you might not.
